The basis of peace: Diffusing acute social stress through the Transcendental Meditation Programme and Yogic Flying

Major General Kulwant Singh, Minister of Defence for the Global Country of World Peace, was first asked by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi to speak about Invincible Defence at two press conferences in Washington DC, USA, on 10 and 11 September 2001. General Singh recalled that Maharishi had been very concerned that something significant was soon to happen, and he requested the general to explain to the press that America would not be secure even with the missile shield proposed by the Bush administration.

Speaking recently on the Maharishi Channel, General Singh explained Maharishi's principle that conventional military technologies and presence do not succeed in preventing war, because they do not address the underlying cause of war—'stress in individual and collective consciousness, and mounting tension among rival factions in critical ''hot-spots'' around the world . . . .

'We must do something to diffuse acute social stress,' General Singh said, 'or else regional conflicts . . . will continue to escalate, putting the whole world at risk.'

General Singh commented that it was 'very heartening indeed' to see how Maharishi's programmes are becoming established in the world. In India, under the leadership of Dr Girish Varma,* and in many other countries, many thousands of students in schools and universities are now practising the Transcendental Meditation Programme and Yogic Flying, as part of Consciousness-Based Education programmes. There is also the large group of Vedic Pandits creating coherence and invincibility for the world from the Brahmasthan (auspicious central area) of India.

General Singh expressed his wish that global invincibility is established very soon 'so that we can live peacefully generation after generation'.
