As demand for healthy sustainable architecture increases, interest in Maharishi Vastu (Vedic architecture) is also increasing around the world.
'Some governments and municipalities have contacted us for building large-scale housing developments and open areas and ideal villages using the latest state of the art, sustainable, green construction technologies,' said international Maharishi Vastu expert, Dr Eike Hartmann.
'Sustainability has caught the imagination of the present generation of architects and planners,' he said. 'It has become a must for every new project to reduce energy consumption and waste of resources, and create more healthy green cities.
'Architectural journals are full of creative ideas for building inner city garden apartments and agricultural office buildings, growing vegetables on rooftops and on vertical wall gardens, even introducing the extreme concept of moving gardens on top of the city buses, and making use of every surface for greenery.'
However, city planners must balance the laudable goal of growing local food with producing truly healthy food that is grown in a pure environment, free from urban pollution, he said.
Ideally food should be organic or even Vedic Organic—which surpasses traditional organic standards.
'A truly sustainable city is a place where everyone is happy, healthy, wealthy, and wise,' Dr Hartmann said.
