'Life is naturally full': Celebrating Maharishi's achievements

On 3 July, during the celebration of Guru Purnima, Maharaja Adhiraj Rajaraam, honoured by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi as first ruler of the Global Country of World Peace, gave a beautiful address. His remarks were a commentary on an address given by Maharishi on this occasion in 1995, which was played earlier in the programme.

In keeping with the theme of this annual festival, honouring the great teachers of the Vedic tradition of knowledge, Maharaja praised Maharishi's achievements for the benefit of the whole world family.

Maharishi 'has spread throughout the world in every country, in every culture, in every science, and in every area of life and living,' Maharaja said, the knowledge and experience of 'infinite silence; infinite, pure unbounded Being . . . . the Unified Field, the embodiment of Totality.'

This is the ultimate reality of life, Maharaja said, that was fully realized in Maharishi's teacher, who was revered throughout India as a great spiritual leader, and whom he addressed as Guru Dev.* This field of 'infinite silence, infinite pure existence . . . was missing in the consciousness of the people, the leaders, the administrators, who were . . . going through all kinds of theoretical, political, economic considerations,' Maharaja explained. 'India was in a great state of turmoil,' and in the mid-twentieth century Maharishi's teacher inspired a great revival of Vedic wisdom.

After completing his university degree, Maharishi came to study with Guru Dev and gained the knowledge and direct experience of this field of infinite silence. He was inspired to bring out the full value of this Vedic wisdom from India to the whole world, including its practical applications to raise every area of life to an ideal state of health, happiness, affluence, and peace.

Maharishi knew from his teacher and from his own experience the Vedic ideal that 'life was naturally full,' Maharaja said, 'and therefore he felt to share this knowledge. Life is naturally full; [yet] people are not living the natural reality of life, they are living in ignorance, darkness. They're living in unnatural reality, abnormal reality. Normality is bliss, naturalness is fullness. That is the reality of life.'

Maharaja praised Maharishi's lifelong work to spread throughout the world 'this power of silence'—the knowledge and experience of the field of infinite fullness, peace, and bliss at the basis of all existence.

The greatness of Maharishi's unprecedented achievement, he said, was not only in bringing out on a wide scale the technologies of consciousness—Transcendental Meditation and its advanced techniques—to allow direct experience and full realization of this underlying field in human life.

Maharishi also established this approach on a rigorous and complete scientific basis through extensive scientific investigation—'on a very scientific, reliable ground [of] unchallengeable authenticity', as Maharishi said in his 1995 address.

'We know all the scientific research about Transcendental Meditation,' Maharaja said, 'and all the implications of this research in terms of how many individuals have been safeguarded from crime, from pain, from ill health, from limitations.'
