Uganda: Women and girls enjoy Transcendental Meditation

The organization offering the Transcendental Meditation programme for women and girls in Uganda has been expanding its activities in the capital city, Kampala. Judith Nassali, director of the programme, has been teaching continuously since becoming qualified as a teacher a year ago. Another teacher, Barbara Lusimbo, has been working with her husband, Grant Lusimbo, Director of Maharishi Secondary School for Girls in Mbale, to create a showcase Consciousness-Based Education girls' school for Africa.

Three organizations for women and girls, with over 225 members, have signed up to learn Transcendental Meditation. The first project for single mothers and children has begun, with 50 women having learned the technique so far. Those who have taken the Transcendental Meditation course meet weekly with the teacher for group meditation and knowledge, helping to create a peaceful, stable, and healthy community for these women.

Two one-day knowledge seminars have also been held for women who practise Transcendental Meditation, which were a great success.

Judith Nassali and Barbara Lusimbo will soon have more help in these and many other new programmes for women in Uganda: Four women are planning to attend the upcoming Transcendental Meditation teacher training course in Thailand that begins this autumn.

Global Good News will report more about the Transcendental Meditation programme for women and girls in Uganda, including at Maharishi Secondary School for Girls, the EDAPO school for orphans, and a project sponsored by the David Lynch Foundation to help war refugees from neighbouring countries.
