Celebrating the Festival of Lights: Abundance, affluence, fulfilment to create a unified world

On 13 November, the Global Country of World Peace celebrated the Festival of Lights, the culmination of three days of special celebrations. The Festival of Lights, Dipavali in the Vedic calendar, celebrates the day of Mahalakshmi—the day of celebrating and enlivening the qualities of abundance, affluence, and fulfilment inherent in the structure of natural law, to promote prosperity and eliminate poverty for individuals and nations.

The celebration took place in MERU, Holland, and at the Capital of World Peace in the Brahmasthan (geographical centre) of India. People in many countries also enjoyed a webcast.

A highlight of the day's programme, following traditional Vedic recitations by Maharishi Vedic Pandits in the Brahmasthan of India and in MERU, was the video of a beautiful address by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi on the occasion of the Festival of Lights, 9 November 2007.

Maharishi said, 'We have celebrated the Festival of Light, the most awakened day out of the 365 days of the Vedic calendar. And that momentum gained today, in the unification of the scattered awareness of the six billion people of the world, stands unified in complete light, the Festival of Light.'

In his address Maharishi described Mahalakshmi as 'the inexhaustible source of affluence', 'the source of all orderly, affluent administration of the universe', and the source of the unification of all diversity. This celebration, Maharishi said, 'takes away today all the disorders and distinctions and mutual challenges and restlessness in the administration of the universe. This is what we are sunk in today—transcendental bliss, self-referral Brahm (Totality)'.

Maharishi explained the value of the Vedic Pandits' recitations on this occasion in promoting an eternally unified world. 'We are fortunate. On the surface, it is the Festival of Light, today, Dipavali—the Festival of Light in the Indian calendar. It is in the Festival of Light that the world is breathing its existence, its evolution, its fulfilment.' We are fortunate to have celebrated the Day of Light with the whole world family, Maharishi said, 'putting the fragmentations and differences of the world in a grand unity on the level of silence where this grand unity is undivided, eternal. . . . very fortunate moments for our world family.'

After Maharishi's address from 2007, Maharaja Adhiraj Rajaraam, honoured by Maharishi as first ruler of the Global Country of World Peace, addressed the celebration from MERU. Global Good News will report on more highlights of the celebration, including Maharaja's address and comments by other administrators and teachers of Transcendental Meditation about the rising momentum of progress in applying Maharishi's programmes to benefit the individual and whole society.
