Nationwide, the number of people learning Transcendental Meditation in Canada has increased by over 100% in the last year and a half. Dr Will Overall, director of the Transcendental Meditation organization in Canada, added that interest in the technique is even more pronounced in the larger Canadian cities. For example, he said, more than three times as many people have taken the course in Toronto this year.
In related news, support for Transcendental Meditation and affiliated programmes has also increased in the last year.
For example, a project to expand First Nations cultural and language programming on the radio has received support through a national foundation. This is a project that was one of the priorities of the Founder of the Transcendental Meditation programme, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who placed great importance on the preservation of mother tongues.
In addition, the David Lynch Foundation of Canada is now able, with the approval of the Canadian government, to fund educational programmes across the country.
According to Dr Ashley Deans, Executive Director of Maharishi School in Iowa, USA, and a member of the David Lynch Foundation's Board of Advisors, 'We will be able to support school programmes that have already started in Canada and we will be able to support more education programmes amongst the First Nations.'
The good news for Canada does not end there.
Despite global economic troubles, Canada's economy is rapidly improving. In fact, recent job gains after the crash of 2008 have been the greatest since 1981. Manufacturing centres are back to levels not seen since before the 2008 financial crisis. Building permits are up 7.4% and trade with the United States has increased 38% over the last two years.
In addition, Canada has gained back all of the 400,000 jobs that were lost during the recession, adding another 365,000 jobs in the process.
These growing positive trends in the economy and other areas of national life reflect the rise of coherence in the nation through Maharishi's programmes, say Transcendental Meditation teachers in the country.
They also point out that economic stability and increased interest in Transcendental Meditation are just two signs of success and positivity in Canada.
