Since becoming Teachers of Transcendental Meditation a few years ago Mr Ashok Kumar and his wife, Mrs Bhori Bai Kumar, have taught the simple, natural, stress-relieving technique to nearly 700 people.

In the military both retired and active duty senior personnel and their families have learned. In Islamabad a retired army major who learned Transcendental Meditation offered the Kumars the use of his home for teaching activities.

They have taught doctors and well-known consultants from an important medical university hospital in Pakistan. The head of the psychiatry department sends patients to the Transcendental Meditation Centre for instruction.

Another physician, a practitioner of Transcendental Meditation, whose specialty is treating migraines, prescribes the practice to his patients and also has asked Dr Kumar to focus on teaching Transcendental Meditation in his community.

Engineers, government officials, a retired government secretary, mind science experts, yoga teachers, and experts in neuro-linguistic programming* all have learned Transcendental Meditation.

The Kumars have also taught students, teachers, school principals, and deans of universities. The dean of a management university in Karachi and the principal of an army school have gone on to learn the advanced Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme. The dean attended a one-day seminar on Consciousness-Based Education in Karachi.

They have taught businessmen, entertainers, farmers, and villagers.

People from every area of life in Pakistan seem to be interested in learning about programmes designed by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi to improve the quality of life for the individual and society.

The Kumars have been invited to several cities to teach the friends of families who have already learned TM. They have traveled to all the provinces in Pakistan, to large metropolitan cities as well as small towns and villages. Mrs Kumar has also been teaching a number of prominent women.

In any city, town, or village where people learn Transcendental Meditation the Kumars arrange for a weekly group meditation.

The Transcendental Meditation Centre in Karachi is located in a five-star hotel, with the use of the rooms made available by the owner, who practises Transcendental Meditation. Recently many doctors, students, and teachers enjoyed two lectures presented there by Dr Robert Wynne, international administrator of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's programmes for the country, who commented that the intelligentsia in Pakistan are very interested in Transcendental Meditation.

During one visit to a remote village, 40 people learned Transcendental Meditation; they now practise as a group daily, creating an influence of coherence and harmony for the whole area. Several are schoolteachers and have become interested in Consciousness-Based Education, requesting that the Kumars return and teach the technique to the children.
