David Frawley was born 1950, is an American Hindu teacher and author, who has written more than thirty books on topics such as the Vedas, Yoga, Ayurveda and Vedic astrology and Hinduism (Sanatana Dharma), published both in India and in the United States. The Vedic name Vamadeva Shastri was conferred upon him in 1991 and in 1996 he received the title 'Pandit' when he received the Brahmachari Vishwanathji Award in Mumbai, India. In 2015 the Indian Government honoured Frawley with the Padma Bhushan award, one of the highest civilian awards, which are rarely given to non-Indians working in Frawley's fields of expertise. Dr Frawley is the founder and director of the American Institute of Vedic Studies in Santa Fe, New Mexico which offers educational information on Yoga philosophy, Ayurveda, and Vedic astrology.
